Yeah…it’s me…again

Or, should I say “…finally?”

First day back at work. Tough making that commute, I assure you.

Houston’s ridiculously idiotic drivers, a semi trying feebly to find the side of the interstate while belching black smoke to a degree that suggests an engine fire instead of a typically, habitually neglected motor, and the low-hung greyness of a city that is regularly shrouded in exhaust haze all left me with a drooping head and my lips silently whispering to the empty passenger seat “why am I doing this, again?”

Not that any of this is unusual for the Houston area, mind you. The problem comes from the comparison I am automatically drawing to the previous five days.

To what, you say?

Friday of last week started at 4am…waking, packing the car, and hitting the road for what would be a roughly 16-hour drive (with stops), ticking off 920 miles of rainy, then sun-warmed roadways and passing through TX, LA, MS, and ending in GA.

Our destination?

A campground in Northern GA.

Our purpose?

Visiting family. Visiting friends (long-standing and new). And…

Visiting Nature.

(Which, as you know from my previous posts, since having to move to the Houston area, is something not locally available, to the degree needed).

So, in the near future, you will be receiving a set of posts, one for each day of the trip, that will share in the experience. No, I was not able to post in near-real-time, as we managed to find a campground that had limited cell reception and places to visit in nature that had … NO … cell reception.

Which, really, is the best way to take a break from the artificial world that major cities try to tell you is “normal.”

With this in mind…

Tight lines…

Oh…why no pics? Because the first day was focused on getting there, with little chance to stop and soak in the surroundings, even when the landscape became more to our liking. In truth, it really got good after night found us still on the road, heading northward from Atlanta… I’ll make up for it, though, I promise.

You really need one?

Fine.

(Do I need to mention that this is not one of my own photos? Really?)

Yes, my back had some choice things to say about doing this…but oh, was it worth that!
