Thank you for your patience!
I have a few weeks to catch up on, but, frankly, there have been fewer chances to capture what I consider good images, as of late. A combination of work-related travel and poor weather own most of that.
My current employer had us in NOLA, a while ago, for an annual conference. I won’t bore you with my thoughts on that event, but at least it provided an opportunity to get a few good pics.
If you have ever driven I-10, from Houston to NOLA, you have probably seen the rest stop that offers you free Community Coffee, just as you escape TX. Well, if you time it right, you also get a great view of the sunrise, through the cypress trees.

Yeah, that wouldn’t get old anytime soon.
To their credit, the hotel for the conference did provide for something of a view. Not what I usually look for, but something special, nonetheless.

On the way out of town, the conference behind me, a stop at Metairie Cemetery was, as always, in order.

I know I have written about this, before, but an excellent “Grave Yard” is always a great place for photos, in my opinion. The distinction being that a Grave Yard is a bit more overgrown…a bit less manicured…than a Cemetery. This one, with it’s still and silent waters and deeply moving fixtures, is an exception.

I sometimes wonder if I could publish a book of “The Cities of the Dead,” just to compile the various photos that have struck a cord with me.

One spot, though, really caught my eye.

I took this shot, then went around to the side and found that the window facing toward the angel had a piece of the stained glass missing. I snapped another (don’t judge, you know you would, too), but later felt the need to email the cemetery to let them know that the glass was broken. Much to my surprise, they called me (rather than email) to let me know that this was done previously and intentionally, as too many people had broken the glass, over the years, to get shot similar to this…

What I had not known (shame on me for not researching to this depth!) was that the scroll (visible in the first pic, but not the second) has a very specific meaning.
I’ll leave it to you to research, but will be back, when next I am in NOLA, to add a pic that captures this.
Still…very moving and evocative statuary…
Once returned to our current home, it was time to recharge!

I don’t want to harp on about the company meeting…but…by the time we got home I definitely needed to clear my head and get grounded, again.
Thankfully, there was at least one other looking for a quiet place to just rest, to share the morning.

After that, I walked the familiar path to find that the still air had allowed the lake (pond!) to provide some excellent reflective images.

So peaceful. So quiet…except for the bird calls, which are always welcome.

I even had a chance to take a side route and get some great (in my opinion!) shots of flora in the light of the early sun.

It is always nice to take a less traveled path, when the opportunity presents itself.

Fast forward to this past weekend, and the slew of warnings and alerts that came to us in the Houston area, and in the end, at least at home, this was the extent of our issues.

Yeah…love the ice in the lantern-holders mouth…
Be careful and safe, everyone. Home may have been spared, but the city kept warning of icy roads, bridges, and overpasses, to do what is needed to keep yourself from harm.
More to come, of course, but until then…
Tight lines…
