Having found that beautiful mayfly dun specimen, yesterday, I realized that my options for dry flies, while on the water, are fairly limited in terms of lighter colors.
Which means, I threw a couple of essentially lighter parachute flies together, today.
To be honest, not so pleased with the results, but hoping the fish don’t notice that it’s a bit sloppy, the colors aren’t quite right (I need light hackles and hair), and that the hairs I did use had a color shift at the tip that I simply removed.
So, the question is: despite all this, what do you think are the chances the trout could be fooled by this imposter?
I’m hoping that the weather and water levels allow me the chance to try it out, tomorrow. If not, I know some tying materials I’ll be picking up, to get closer than this to the original. I will likely also do some emerges, once the materials are a better color match.
We shall see.
