After weeks of smoke, one kind of gets used to not having the normal stretches of bright and crisp sun. Almost like the drizzle that helped drive us from the Seattle area, the smoke (sometimes hitting AQIs in the 300’s for hours) has been both a visible and psychological haze for more than a month.
While not the size of the CA fires, our current source is barely 20 miles away, and tracks directly into the upper reaches of the canyons rolling past us and into town (which sits lower than home, and unfortunately pools the smoke).
Rough to wake to this in the morning…
Today, from my desk, the view kicked off the same way…
…then, I notice the weather widget in the corner of the laptop screen flip from “Haze” to “Rain Coming.” Just a couple of days ago, the extended forecast had only one day (far out) that even got close to a 10% chance of rain. This morning, full reverse and indications of “Heavy Rain” in some hours.
As I look out, and watch the beginning of the rainfall, I am reminded that our current fire started with lightning, and I hope this front does not bring any more of that with it…
Good start to today. Many thanks going out to the 684 personnel working the nearby fire, per inciweb. Stay safe, everyone.
Tight lines…
